Happy New Year from the TRA! What a busy year we had in 2021. We saw an increase in memberships, green fee golfers and tournaments throughout the year. Sand volleyball had another fun year with league play and tournaments. A lot of new things happened throughout the year as well. Below is a recap of the 2021 season at the TRA:
I want to thank Troy and Kevin for all of the work they have put in this last year. You can definitely see that their hard work has paid off on how nice the course looks.
Roy Gravett thinks it’s time to step down as a board member but will still be a “volunteer” worker on the course. Roy has been a huge help for well over 30 years on and off the TRA Board. Thanks to Roy for everything he has done and will continue to help with. Dean Giese has also been a huge help in the maintenance side of our equipment. Dean decided to step down as a board member in November and we thank him for all of the work to keep us up and running. Thanks to all of the other board members that have helped out to keep things moving. It does truly take a village to keep our course in the shape that it is in.
Thanks to Ronda and her staff for keeping the clubhouse running and serving our customers. It’s not as easy as you think to operate and maintain. Ronda will be returning as manager for the 2022 season, and we look forward to her leadership and weekly specials.
Looking forward already to the green grass of spring,
Bryce Poland
Board President
Membership renewal invoices will be mailed out in early January 2022. Use the invoices to remit your renewal payments or you can download a blank membership form. There is also the option to renew online using the TRA Shopping page or by paying direct to TRA Paypal Account.
Plan to attend the annual board meeting on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the TRA Clubhouse. All members are invited and encouraged to attend. End of year financials will be discussed, among other business.
If you are unable to make it to the meeting, you can email your votes to bnpoland@gmail.com. If you plan to attend the meeting, you can fill out the form and hand it in then or there will be copies provided the night of the meeting.
Vote for no more than 3 people (1 ballot per membership).
Download the letter & form here.
REMEMBER: You must sign in at the clubhouse before going out to play. This ensures you know any course restrictions or upcoming events that may limit your play for the day. You can also call the clubhouse to have them sign you in.
(See next section below for more TRA and USGA Rules of Golf)
The golf course is in the best shape it's been in for a very long time, thanks to Troy Pedersen and Kevin Pingel and their crew's work effort and dedication. Let's do our part to keep it that way. THIS INCLUDES NOT PARKING WITHIN 30 FEET OF A GREEN (please follow this and also remind your young children of this important rule).
Do you like the beautiful course conditions? Then, help us out and purchase one of these sand bottles with holder for $30 in the clubhouse. Use it to fill your divots on the course. Sand will be in a tub under the deck to refill your bottles.
Do you follow us on Facebook, but miss some of the posts? Here's a hint: Go to our Facebook Page, then find the 3-dot menu near the upper right. Click on "Follow Settings" and click in the Notifications -> Posts sections to choose to be notified up to 5 times per day rather than the Highlights. Things like course closings due to an event or rain, or clubhouse food specials are posted here.
Check the Events Page for more information.
Thank you to Gene Miller for donating a ball washer to the TRA.
The TRA is now a GHIN Handicap member, meaning you can join the GHIN handicap system through Treynor Recreation Area for $25 per year. This is great for tracking your handicap and is a requirement if you play in some tournaments in the area, or if you're part of the Men's League. Contact Bryce Poland for more information.
The TRA Board wanted to make sure that members understand that the cart lease covers a cart during regular play of golf only. It is similar to paying membership dues in that the dues cover fees for regular play of golf, not golf during tournaments or outings. If you have a cart lease and play in a tournament or outing, you will need to reserve and pay for the cart.
Treynor Days starts June 25th with dinner at the TRA from 5-9 pm, followed by Beer Garden and singer Chris Shelton from 7 to 11 p.m.
Sand Volleyball will be held at the TRA on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Contact Kathy 712-355-2855 to register.
Treynor Days Golf Tournament planning is still in the works.
Follow the Treynor Days Facebook page for updates.
We have a high number of memberships this year, and if you still haven't renewed your membership, please do so soon. If you do not wish to renew your membership, would you email tramanager@yahoo.com to let us know?
Thank you to all or members and for your continued patronage and support. We may be a small town course, but we have an amazing place to play!

The Clubhouse opens March 18th and will be solely managed this year by Ronda Greiner. She has been busy hiring workers for the season. Ronda is sure to have regular lunch specials and has also reported that the salad bar will be back!
You will see some familiar faces returning: Ashley Boehm, Kelly Burhenne, Megan Carter, Lea Crouse & Traci Black. New hires this year are: Tori Martinez, Laura Fisher, Mindee Vorthmann & Nate Zimmerman.
WELCOME TO ALL OF OUR STAFF!

If you have anything stored for the winter in our facility, you have a little while yet, but please make arrangements with Tandy (402-651-0352) to get it out by April 30th.
It is important for all golfers to understand the rules and etiquette of golf. The TRA has a basic one-page guide for commons rules & etiquette.
For an expanded list of rules, refer to the USGA website.
At the November 14, 2020 Meeting, new board members were appointed.
Welcome to our new board members Bryce Poland and Troy Pederson. They have both been very active members and will be great assets to the TRA. Thank you to Tandy Bailey for his service as his term on the board expires. TRA has benefited greatly by having him on the board. This will be
Roy’s last year as president. He will help Bryce Poland transition into the President's role for the 2022 season. Thank you to Roy for serving an extra year to the TRA.
Refer to the Board Page for assignments and contact information.
At the November 14, 2020 meeting, the board voted to leave membership prices the same for the 2021 season. Invoices for 2021 will be mailed out in January. These invoices will be based on your prior year's membership.
Memberships can also be handled by downloading the membership form and sending in payment. Online payment is also accepted. See the Membership Page for these details.
Shelly Bailey will be managing the membership directory this year and would like members to contact her directly with the year they first joined the TRA. Please email her at shellybailey007@gmail.com with this information. She has memberships going back to 2012, but nothing electronic prior to that.
The next board meeting will be January 13, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the TRA Clubhouse. Contact a board member if you wish to attend.
The Chili Open is scheduled for this Saturday, October 17th with a Noon shotgun. The format will be a 4-person best ball (scramble). Chili will be provided as part of the $200 entry fee and there will also be deep discounted drink specials throughout the day. The weather looks promising and decent for middle of October. If we can get this tournament filled with 18 teams you will have a 50% chance of winning money back. Please help us close out the golf season with a fun tournament for all! Contact the TRA or Bryce Poland (402-926-6831) to enter the tournament.
It's also getting close to the winter months and if you need storage contact Tandy Bailey at 402-651-0352. Cost is $175 for car, truck or boat and $125 for smaller item such as golf cart, wave runner, utility cart, etc. There is a $25 discount for members. Storage is from November 1st until April 30th.
The golf course will be OPEN this Saturday, August 29th as we are working on fairway reseeding; but one hole at a time will be temporarily closed as work is being done. Please be aware and mindful of the workers on the course if you are playing.
On Saturday, September 12th the course will be CLOSED for aerating and top-dressing of greens. No golf will be allowed this day.
If you can offer your help for these volunteer-oriented tasks, please contact the Clubhouse 712-318-6216 with your contact information so they can pass it along.
Follow the TRA Facebook Page or look to the Events page to be informed about upcoming events. While there hasn't been a lot of tournaments this year, golf is a sport that more are taking up during the pandemic. There is still a lot of golf weather left in the year and we look forward to seeing you!
Dave Mass recently announced his resignation from the TRA Board, effective September 1st. Dave has served on the board many times over the years and has put in countless volunteer hours helping to maintain the golf course, equipment and irrigation system. If you see Dave, please give him your sincere thanks for sharing his time with the TRA!

Please make sure your children under the age of 16 are not driving TRA owned golf carts. This is a safety hazard and could jeopardize the TRA's insurance on our carts. Likewise, personally owned carts should not be operated on the streets by children younger than 16.
The greens are coming around and our staff is working hard to treat the spots. We could use your help with our green conditions and ask that you repair your divots and park carts 15 foot away from the fringe.
It's June and everyone's dues should be paid by now. If you have not paid your dues and don't plan on doing so, please let Tandy Bailey know so he can remove you from the membership roster. Email him at golfmanbailey@yahoo.com. Without a membership, you are required to pay green fees to play. Thank you for your cooperation.
Men's Night has seen an increase in play and we are excited to see this! Ladies -- get some girl time and join other women on Tuesday nights. If there are at least 20 men on Thursday or 20 women on Tuesday, the course is closed to others. With recent participation at Men's Night, it is a given that the course will be closed to others on Thursdays starting at 4:00 p.m.
The Clubhouse recently released online ordering options. Check it out on the menu webpage. We ask for a little grace as we work out the kinks to this new system.
Starting Monday, May 4th, the dining room will be open for limited seating. We will abide by the regulations set forth by the state. Patrons are not allowed to sit at the bar, but can have a drink with their food order.
Clubhouse hours vary, depending on golf crowd and weather; but food service is generally available until 7 p.m.
A formal Thursday Men's League will start on May 28th. There will be an entry fee and weekly payouts. Additional green fees will be due for non-members.
You do not have to play in the league to play on Men's Night. All league players will start on hole #1 throughout the day, starting at 1:00 p.m. Men's night officially begins this Thursday, May 7th.
Please read more information about the League here.
Please clear up your open accounts and pay your dues no later than May 15th, or pay before then if you go out to play.
If you have any questions about the amount you owe, contact the Clubhouse 712-318-6216 or Tandy Bailey, Membership Director 402-651-0352.
With the uncertainty of the Coronavirus, we haven't yet decided if our tournament schedule will go on as planned. Tentative dates can be reviewed on the events page. There are two views of events on this page, a calendar view and events listing.
Remember, all events are tentative at this point. We will let you know as soon as we know more about tournaments.
We wish to stress that group size should be limited when golfing. Five-somes are allowed on occasion with approval, but no more than that is allowed.
Many of the USGA Rules changed in late 2018 for the 2019 season, which still might be a bit confusing for some. A summary of those rules are explained in a short 4-minute USGA Video.
The TRA also has a basic one-page guide for commons rules & etiquette.
Thank you to those that have adopted tee box landscaping! There are still a few left for you or a group to adopt. Our tee boxes can be the beauty and pride of our golf course and we have had many adopt them over the years. The adoption would require maintenance throughout the year to keep them looking good. A sponsor sign is allowed within the flower bed or landscaped area of your adopted hole. Signs should be no larger than 5x7 and should be in good taste. Contact the Clubhouse or Course Directors, Dean Giese at 712-314-4426 or Dave Mass 712-487-3285.
Sand Volleyball planning is in the works, but plans are to start with the first tournament on Memorial Day Weekend. There are still openings for teams. Cost is $200 per team.
Contact Kathy Klahn 712-355-2855 for more information and/or to sign-up.
Thank you to Daniel Owens, for refinishing and painting our tee box markers. We apologize for the inconvenience of the missing tee markers, but they are now back on the course to guide you to where to tee up your ball.
Hello TRA Members & Guests!
These are unusual times, but we are happy that the golf course is still open for play! The clubhouse is also offering take-out during their hours, which are currently 9 a.m. to close (weather permitting). They also have lunch specials, which can be found on the TRA Facebook page.
We are doing everything we can to keep you and our staff safe, which includes extra cleaning and sanitation inside the clubhouse and sanitizing the carts & keys after each use.
If you are a paid member with your own cart and don't need anything in the clubhouse, we ask that you call 712-318-6216 to have them sign in for you before you go out. If you need a beverage, food or cart, please come inside, keeping the proper distance from others, and the staff will assist you. You can always call in with your credit card information and they can get things ready for you ahead of time.
In order to practice social distancing, you may feel the need to rent two carts. The cost to rent a cart is a "per cart" price. See rates page for details.
We will try to keep score cards available at the #2 tee mailbox if you need a new card.
Please do not remove flag sticks from any hole on the greens. We have put rings around the pins on each hole to keep your ball from going in too far. You should be able to remove your ball without touching surrounding surfaces.
Please also note that the bathrooms on the golf course are currently closed.
We welcome you all to come play at the TRA. Please remember the social distancing regulations that are in place to help keep us all healthy and well.
It is finally spring, but the weather isn't quite cooperating just yet to open the golf course. As soon as it warms up, the course will be open. We do think that golf is a safe sport to play during this time of required social distancing. Even though we can't have customers hanging out in the clubhouse, being outdoors is a safe environment. Please call the clubhouse before coming to play to ensure it is open. 712-318-6216 is our new number.
With COVID-19 restricting our restaurant business, we are reducing our hours to carryout or curbside delivery from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. WEEKDAYS ONLY until the course is open. Call to pre-order your lunch 712-318-6216. We can call or text you when the order is ready. Check out Facebook for lunch specials or see our menu for food options (salad bar not available at this time).
Please make sure you pay your dues and cart fees before playing. If you do not know how much you owe, please contact Membership Director Tandy Bailey at golfmanbailey@yahoo.com or 402-651-0352. Return your invoice with check to PO Box 338, Treynor, IA 51575, stop into the clubhouse during hours of operation to pay with credit card or use the TRA's PayPal account to make your payment.
Check the website and social media links to stay up to date on TRA News. We hope to see everyone soon!
The clubhouse and golf course are scheduled to open on March 19th, the first day of spring, weather permitting.
Make sure you pay your membership dues and member cart fees before playing. If you did not get an invoice in December, contact Tandy Bailey 402-651-0352.You can also download a membership form and pay at the clubhouse.
We are thankful that co-managers Ronda Greiner (left) and Ashley Boehm (right) will return this year to manage the TRA Clubhouse. Together, these two make a great team providing delicious lunch specials and happy customer service. Stop in to stay hello to them in March!
The Rules of Golf are complex and should be known by all members and their children. Not only are there rules to playing the game, but there are the rules of etiquette.
If you have your car, boat or other item stored for the winter in TRA storage, you will need to get your item removed before May 1st. Contact Tandy Bailey with questions 402-651-0352.
